Speaking of streams…

Have any of you been keeping up with the online GodsGarden tournament? It consists of some big named Japanese players in SSF4 so if you want to look at it, you should check it out. Everything is listed up in Eventhubs.com but if you’re too lazy to sift through everything:

Online streaming tournaments?

With online capabilities, it’s easier to connect people from all over the world to play with each other, but I’m pretty sure that some of you feel the lag when you do play. It’s one of those things that have both pros and cons, and we’re not planning to exclusively run tournaments online; though I will have to admit it would be way easier. Instead, we will run online tournaments with small prizes and keep the big prizes with money pots and everything offline.

But what do you think about the format of their online tournament? Do you think more tourneys could be legitimately run online?

Due to relations falling off from our previous tenant that hosted our previous tournaments and game nights….We were put off in throwing tournaments. Let’s just say that people that usually preach about God and religion are probably the WORST SINNERS OUT THERE.

Yes, I said it. It took me a whole lot of goddamn self control to not sue them for what they did but I’ll just chalk this up to life lessons. Liars and cheats, the whole lot of them.
Anyways, we’re back and we’re going to try to start the tourney scene again but that’s not all. We plan to have tournaments offline and online with prizes and incentives. Adding to all of that, we added a stream site for streaming tournaments live for all of you guys to see!

So please, we would still love all the support you guys showed us before! Hope we see you all again!

Like I said, this is a game that is coming out to America but has been in service in Korean and Japan for quite some time. I actually have been fiending to play this game for the longest time because…come on…this is the game I’ve been waiting for all my life. This is the game I would make.
This game has everything that I liked in video games:

• Arcade style beat-em-up like Turtles In Time or Double Dragon.
• MMORPG – it’s not something I really like but it’s cool to play with other people
• Capcom influenced gameplay since this game was an homage to Capcom’s Dungeons and Dragons:  Shadows Over Mystara.
• And when I say Capcom influenced, I mean it. It has SKILLS AND SUPERS. FUCK YEAH.
• Street Fighter input commands for skills meaning: throw a fireball like it was hadoken -> Down to Forward + Attack.
• Now add a party to the mix and you have TEAM COMBOS AND SUPERS AND OMGOMGOMGOMG AWESOME.
• PVP that plays like a beat-em-up fighter. They have tournaments in Japan and Korea for this game! GRAAARRR!!!

With returning players and new challengers waiting to battle it out, it was a great day of games and competition.

First off, I want to congratulate Skye for winning the second Ultra Combo Finish SF4 Tournament! This newcomer just shook the place up with his undefeated E.Honda and just pressured his way onto first place. Good job, Skye!

I’ll come out and say it that I was hella lazy for this tournament.
I forgot to bring my video camera and when I was about to leave, an influx of people started pouring and I just didn’t want to go….so sorry for no flashy, edited video. I did get some from my phone though so I might make something but yeah….sorry.

A few things did go wrong today, but I am really thankful that you all kept your patience while our little group ran through these obstacles. I suppose it’s all part of experiencing the problems of running a tourney so next time, I promise it will run smoother. Next time, no dual system tournaments – we’ll stick to either 360 or PS3, depending what tournament we throw.

Anyways, thank you for all the players that came today and battled it out. Slob Murph and Skye had an amazing battle but one notable fight was when Andre fought Skye and won the round with an unbelievable comeback. Still, Skye proved to be the better fighter as he won that match and continued on to be the champion.

My friend Dizzle and I threw together this quick video review of UFC: Undisputed Demo.

Okei…
First off, I’ll say that I’m a martial artist. Actually, all of my friends are martial artists (Blizzy is a boxer and hits hella hard too. Trust me, haha) and we all watch UFC. Yeah, yeah, I know I’ve made many jokes about bros and what not, but I’ve been following MMA since the late 90′s with Pride. There was one UFC game that came out a long time ago for the PS2 but it was so horribly done.

…and hearing that THQ is putting together the new UFC game got me interested. If you guys don’t know, THQ has been the company that makes the WWE wrestling games since the N64 – and with this UFC game that’s a little bit of both wrestling and fighting game, I wanted to see the direction they were going with.

Gameplay:

The first thing that any fan of both fighting game and UFC has this on their mind. How are they going to create a system that is deep in both striking and grappling?
Simple.
The face buttons are your striking attacks.
The right stick is your…well, grapple stick.
It’s a ridiculously innovative way of thinking. Since everyone in the UFC have their own specialities, not everyone can fall under the game system of a fighting game that’s built around stand up. With both striking and grappling being an integral part of MMA, this grapple stick/face button system is such a great way of flowing into both styles with ease. At any moment, each fighter can end up on the ground so instead of memorizing button press combinations, you have the stick and the face buttons available at any situation.

Which leads me into talking about the ground game. The ground fighting mechanics feel a lot like Fight Night. Since you’d be using the grapple stick more on the floor, they made it simple for you to pass or to hold positions with simple movements.
Think about this:
If you are trying to maneuver into a more advantageous position (whether you are on top or bottom), you can do either of 2 things: Minor Transitions and Major Transition.
Minor transitions are small passes, but are easier done, while Major transitions goes for the best possible position.
Example – Minor transition from someone’s guard would move you into a half guard. Major transition from someone’s guard would move you to side control.
This doesn’t mean that the person with a disadvantageous position can’t do anything, even on the ground game, both fighters can turn the battle into their favor.
What then happens is a very technical display of counters, reversal, sweeps, and submission attempts. The in game fights are much more exciting than the ones in real life, haha.
Trust me, you’d be rolling around like a pro after a few minutes of understanding the system.

Graphics:

It’s a demo I know, but the graphics aren’t as good as a lot of people say. Don’t get me wrong, the actual physical interaction of skin moving or fists getting caught in blocks is amazing, it’s just that I’ve seen better.
Nevertheless, I won’t front and say that this IS a great looking game. They mocapped everything well, and no one moves like robot. I honestly haven’t seen an issue with clipping at all, and the textures of the fighter’s bodies is unbelievable. If you were to walk in and didn’t know that it was a game, it’d take you a minute to realize that this isn’t real life. It’s very life-like….aside from Ariyanna’s titties were enhanced in the game but, I’m not complaining. More Ariyanna titties, I say.

I SAY!

Sound:

From the demo, I’ve heard the bro song opening of generic rock, so I suppose we can expect all the great bro bands to make their appearance on here. Like Disturbed, who knows.
It has great attention to detail like the sound of glove on glove and even the fleshy strike of skin.
The one thing that pulled me though, was the voice commentating. Bill Goldberg and Joe Rogan are actually doing the commentating in this game to keep it all aunthentic but what made me love it so much is that, they even taped Joe Rogan messing up on calling positions like he does for real.

“Ooh! He just got side control, excuse me, I meant half guard.”

That’s just…..awesome. It makes the commentating a lot less robotic and it feels like this is a real match.

Overall:

It is a great game. I didn’t think that I’d enjoy it because I was iffy with the control scheme, but it just WORKS. Seamlessly going from both a standup style to the grappling stick is such an innovative system that makes this game stand out to be a Grade-A fighter with it’s own genre. Sure it’s a sport style sim, but if you’re craving for a “realistic” fighting game that’s both exciting and deep, try the demo out.

I already know that come May 19, we’ll be having our own fight night.
Hell, this might be a fun tourney game.
